Directions
Go south from Wallowa -- follow road towards Little Bear trailhead. Not for the family van -- but you won\\\'t need 4-wheel either.Trail Description
Trail follows logging road for .4 mile then turns left and heads steeply up a series of switchbacks on the easter slope of the mountains. After a couple of miles the trail crosses some rocks and tops out on a small mesa -- this is Huckleberry Mountain. The trail continues south across a wonderful ridge that gives you some great views of the valley below -- and the west side of Ruby Peak. I took the trip in early August -- and it was dry, dry, dry -- would have been quite pretty four weeks earlier. A nice place -- but much better day hikes can be found in the Wallowa Mountains.
