07-02-2009 Let me add -- if you continue past Tenderfoot Pass you come to Polaris Pass in a couple of miles. The view at Polaris is the best I've seen in the Wallowas, and that is saying something. There aren't good campsites are water sources in this area, and the trip down the other side of Polaris to the West Fork Wallowa trail is pretty brutal. I'd recommend to hikers visiting Aneroid Lake or the area around Tenderfoot to day hike up to Polaris Pass and go back the same direction, unless you are up for a long loop to the West trail, Frazier and glorious Glacier Lakes, and then out by the West trail.
01-30-2007 hiked this trail a few years ago. Very nice area. Not quite as nice as the lakes basin area, but definitely worth a trip.
